Name: Alana Hamilton
Info: I am currently studying Advertising Media Management at Centennial College. Prior to this I graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Cinema Studies and English. Unfortunately, I discovered that I would never be a film director or a writer. After graduation, I worked for a couple of years before I discovered my true interest lay in advertising. I had always been interested in advertising by tearing out ads I liked from magazines, taking pictures of billboards and watching commercials on YouTube. Then, one day I woke up and realized that I would like to be a part of that world as a media planner or buyer.
Why?: I have created this blog because I am interested in the various ways that Toronto is used as a backdrop for advertisements. Billboards, TTC ads, store fronts, virtual street banners / televisions, etc are all a part of our daily experience living in this city.My focus will be on the way in which Toronto’s buildings and streets are used and how they are an important part of the ad.
How?: I will use this blog to post pictures and opinions on ads that I find around the city. I will look at ads that I found to be appealing, effective, offensive, creative, original and /or just plain ridiculous. I encourage readers to post their own ideas and to engage in conversation with me and others through comments. I would like this blog to be an open forum by and for Torontonians about their own encounters and interactions with the city’s advertisements.
